Have you ever wondered what inspires an artist to create? What makes a crafter tick? I thought you might like a little insight into what inspires me. I think it is pretty obvious if you look at my work that I am very much inspired by nature, but really I would say I am inspired by everything and anything! Everyday I see something I think would make a great image in a picture, has amazing colour, texture or pattern that I can use. I take a lot of photos, I sketch and I take notes. Sketchbooks were always an important part of projects when I was at art college and I still work in that way, though my style is very organic and the idea that starts off on paper often grows into something very different. Also a sketch book idea may not make it to a finished piece immediately, I look at it as a way of banking my ideas. I have a large library of photos stored which I go to for ideas all of the time. This is a selection of photos from the past couple of weeks. I took photos on a woodland walk, a day out in London, a dandelion I spotted a short walk from home, roses I received for my birthday and probably the strangest of all: some figs I was about to eat! I love instagram and if you want to see a small fraction of the inspiration I gather as well as an insight into my day to day life you can follow me at www.instagram.com/beadieeyededie As well as the day to day gathering of ideas, I also like to visit museums, churches and other historic buildings. My favorite style of design are without doubt Art Nouveau and Art Deco and we are very lucky to have an Art Nouveau church close to where we live. I was able to visit and take lots of photos of the beautiful design details and I know I will be inspired again and again looking at them. I thought this would be a good example to show you the inspiration through to the final piece of art. Below is a small selection of photos I took (they are a little dark as it is in a church and I did not want to use flash photography) and below that you can see the piece of textile art I created using needle felting. This was just a little glimpse into what inspires me! I hope to share more with you in the future.
